The U.S. Department of Education released a fact sheet on Monday detailing the responsibilities of states and districts in educating immigrant children. The Department acknowledged that they have received inquiries referencing recent news stories about Central American children crossing the border from Mexico into the U.S. The document—FACT SHEET: Educational Services for Immigrant Children and Those Recently Arrived to the United States—gives background information on the topic, highlights existing resources available to help states and districts educate immigrant children, and offers answers to frequently asked questions. The Texas Education Agency said they are continually working with various state agencies on the issue and will provide additional information if necessary.
