Endorsed in the 2016 Republican primary runoff election by the Texas Home School Coalition, which supports using public funds for private and home-schools, giving private and home-schooled students greater access to public education services, and limiting state oversight of private and home schools.
During an interview with the Texas Tribune on April 21, 2016, Buckingham stated that she personally supports private school vouchers and considers herself a pro-voucher candidate for Senate District 24; she opposes capping the number of charter schools allowed in Texas; she supports tax cuts that were proposed in 2015 and would advocate for additional tax cuts; she believes that any laws unfunded by the legislature should become null and void; and on the issue of school funding, she believes that schools should focus on operating more efficiently and limiting the money spent on administration.
