Sen. Eddie Lucio (D–Brownsville) joined with four other members of the Senate Education Committee—Chairman Sen. Dan Patrick (R–Houston), Sen. Donna Campbell (R–New Braunfels), Sen. Ken Paxton (R–McKinney) and Sen. Larry Taylor (R–Friendswood)—today to vote in favor of two voucher bills. Sens. Leticia Van de Putte (D–San Antonio), Royce West (D–Dallas), Robert Duncan (R–Lubbock) and Kel Seliger (R–Amarillo) were not present at the time of the early morning vote. Ignoring opposition from the education community, these five members of the committee approved Senate Bill (SB) 115 by Sen. Tommy Williams (R–The Woodlands) and SB 23 by Patrick; the bills will now be sent to the full Senate for floor consideration. ATPE opposed both bills and is disappointed in the vote.
