Senate approves HB 5

The Texas Senate approved HB 5 after lengthy floor debate last night. Nearly 30 amendments to the bill were considered, including one by Sen. Tommy Williams (R–The Woodlands) that adds two additional STAAR tests to testing requirements. You can read a running account of the debate on our Twitter. The bill will now head to a conference committee made up of both House and Senate members who will hammer out the differences between the House and Senate versions of the bill. Stay tuned for more.
